arrow Juvenile Court receives grant for innovative treatment program

The Family Dependency Treatment Court Program recently received a more than $445,000 grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Congressman Phil Gingrey will present the grant 9:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in the BOC Room, second floor, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta. The FDTC program began as a part of Cobb Juvenile Court in 2006 and is designed to break the cycle of substance abuse and neglect. The program partners with Mother's Making A Change, a Community Services Board treatment program, to provide substance abuse treatment and education. It assists and monitors families in treatment and during their recovery for a minimum of two years. The FDTC program has been extremely successful and the grant will help it provide more services to families. The program will be able to hire a full-time in-home therapist; obtain a professional evaluator who will review current procedures and offer strategies to improve efficiency; purchase a screening tool that will help the program document the success of treatment with clients; and implement new family-oriented education and treatment. The grant will be distributed over a three-year period.
