Georgia-native Joe L. Thompson is a former state senator and bank vice president, currently self-employed in real estate management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech, and has served in numerous civic and business associations.
Commission District Two (Southeast Cobb) includes the Platinum Triangle, a major metro employment center bordered by three interstates.
Convenient to Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport, the area is home to major corporations such as Home Depot, IBM and US Sprint and includes a nationally-ranked convention facility, the Cobb-Galleria Centre. The district is enjoying a resurgence in upscale residential development, which includes the Vinings and Smyrna communities.
