Obtaining A Marriage License in Cobb County
- Any Georgia resident may apply for a license in any county in Georgia. However, if neither the bride nor groom are residents of Georgia, you may only obtain your license in the county where the ceremony is performed. The license does not have an expiration date.
- Both parties must be present in order to obtain a marriage license and bring the following:
- Effective July 1, 2003, Pre-marital blood test results are no longer required in the State of Georgia.
- Identification: You must have proof of age by presenting one of the following:
- Driver’s license
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Military ID
- or another legal document
- The marriage license fee is $51.00 cash or $16.00 cash only if you provide to the court a Certificate of Completion for a Qualified Premarital Education Program with at least six hours of instruction involving marital issues. The premarital education must be completed within 12 months prior to the application for a marriage license and the couple must undergo the education together. - If either bride or groom has been divorced within the past 90 days, please be prepared to present a copy of the final divorce decree.
For applicants under 18 years of age:
- You must be at least 16 years of age in order to obtain a license in Georgia. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, both parents and legal guardians must give their consent in person.
- After the marriage ceremony, you will be given a copy of the marriage license. The officiant must then mail the white copy to this court. After the license has been recorded and placed in the permanent files, you may obtain a certified copy.

Obtaining Certified Copies of Your Marriage License
To receive a certified copy of a marriage license issued in Cobb County:
- You may come in person to the Probate Court, or
- Mail a written request to Cobb County Probate Court, 32 Waddell Street, Marietta, Georgia 30060. Your correspondence should include the groom’s full name, the bride’s full name before marriage, and the date of the ceremony.
- The fee is $5 per copy, payable by check, money order, or cash.
A Free Marital Workshop:
FOCUS ON FOREVER is a marital workshop developed by the Superior and Probate Courts of Cobb County. It is a skill-based non-religious workshop designed for engaged and newlywed couples. The workshop is designed to address issues concerning communication and listening skills, anger management, and financial planning. It is a volunteer-taught program, led by professionals volunteering their time, and is available to the public at no cost.
