In an effort to give back to the community, Cobb County Government began the Make-A-Wish 5K in 2001. All funds raised from the 5K have been donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® to grant wishes for Cobb County children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The first race in 2001 had 156 participants and raised $15,000 which granted the wishes for three Cobb children. Each year the 5K has continued to grow with 2009 giving us a record breaking total of 1012 participants. The amount of $36,000 was raised which will grant the wishes of six Cobb children.
The 5K has become an event that the community has truly become involved in. Our participants include individuals, families, neighborhoods, business and church groups, track teams and school groups, and phantom runners. We also have a faithful group of Corporate Sponsors who generously support us with their donations each year.
The Make-A-Wish 5K is proud to be a part of the Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Circuit, a series of Georgia running events that take place throughout the year. Runners can travel to unique and different locations throughout the state and experience fun and different running events, while seeing new places & sights. Runners earn points for participating in the Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Races if they place in the top 20 of their age group for each race. 2009 marked the 20th Anniversary of the series with over 400 races participating making it the largest race series of it’s kind in the country.
